About the Artist

Harpsichord, conducting and music education form a single story

Edyta completed two degree programmes at the Academy of Music in Kraków: music education and the conducting of vocal and vocal-instrumental ensembles, followed by harpsichord studies in the class of Professor Elżbieta Stefańska, graduating with distinction.

Piano, conducting and harpsichord did not become three separate specialisms. Together they shaped a way of listening in which the detail of articulation remains connected to the architecture of form, and the independence of a soloist meets responsibility for an ensemble.

At the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe she was awarded the Diplom-Musiker qualification, completed the soloist class with the Solistenexamen at the highest grade, and pursued additional studies in harpsichord chamber music. She has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and basso continuo player.

She has appeared in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Portugal and Spain. Her work with orchestras, choirs and early-music ensembles has also included radio, television and CD recordings.

Music as living history

Music of the past does not need museum distance. It needs knowledge, imagination and presence.

Music of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries lies at the heart of Edyta’s artistic interests. Her interpretation begins with the source, the instrument and the style, yet it does not end with historical accuracy. A score must become speech again: it needs direction, tension, breath and meaning that a contemporary listener can understand.

Years of playing harpsichords and spinets from different schools of instrument building have taught her to respond to the individual character of each instrument. She owns an Italian-model harpsichord built by Bizzi and has also played, among others, a French instrument by von Nagel, a German Merzdorf and English instruments.

Solo performance is complemented by chamber music and basso continuo—the art of shaping harmony from within an ensemble. This role requires stylistic knowledge, improvisational freedom and close attention to the breathing of one’s musical partners.

Early music also leads Edyta towards the history of dance, dress and social customs. Her original educational programmes combine performance with stories about instruments and the everyday life of earlier periods. La Fiamma Dance and the BALBASTRE workshop developed the same perspective through choreography and historical costume.

Conducting, arranging and teaching bring this knowledge into collaborative work. From the ESKAdO children’s choir in Karlsruhe, through Wytalentowane MFM, to the RETRO Group in Szydłowiec, the generations, repertoire and working conditions change, but respect for the performer and responsibility for the musical result remain constant.

The new website preserves Edyta’s historical legacy while documenting new concerts, recordings and projects. It is not a closed catalogue; it continues to grow as further chapters of the Artist’s work unfold.

Beyond the harpsichord

From historical keyboards to the piano and organ

Edyta has played many distinguished harpsichords and spinets, including instruments by von Nagel and Merzdorf. The piano and organ are equally present in her work—in teaching, liturgy, concerts and ensemble performance.

The piano was Edyta’s first diploma instrument and remains an important part of her work as a performer, accompanist, arranger and teacher. Her long experience allows her to combine pianistic precision with sensitivity to style, colour and the needs of a soloist or ensemble.

Edyta’s organ experience includes liturgical music, church concerts and performances with orchestra. Working at the organ has deepened her sense of layered sonority, voice leading, the breath of a phrase and the shaping of form in a large acoustic space.

Continuity

From concert halls and radio studios to contemporary projects

Different scales of musical work meet in Edyta’s artistic life. There is the solo recital, in which the artist is responsible for the entire architecture of time. There is chamber music, built on a dialogue between equals. There are orchestras and oratorios, where the harpsichord becomes part of a larger organism. There are also choir rehearsals, individual lessons, recording sessions and arrangements created for a particular voice.

Work with Polish Radio, Südwestrundfunk and Bayern 2, a solo harpsichord album, recordings with the ESKAdO choir and later Made for Music projects demonstrate a continuous presence before the microphone. Repertoire and technology change, but the need for precision, attention to balance and convincing musical form remains.

Teaching has always developed alongside concert performance. Edyta taught at the Europäische Schule Karlsruhe, founded MusicWorkshop, and worked with children, adults and senior singers. Today she prepares ensembles for concerts and recordings, creates arrangements, accompanies performers and leads rehearsals.

Over the years Edyta has worked with, among others, the Schleswig-Holstein Orchester, Vocalensemble Rastatt, Consortium Jagiellonicum, Forum Sinfonia, Camerata Bonn, the orchestra of the Internationale Händel-Akademie Karlsruhe, Ensemble für Alte Musik Karlsruhe, La Banda Palatina, Con Voce Festiva Ensemble and Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim. She was a harpsichordist and one of the artistic leaders of La Fiamma. With the ESKAdO choir she prepared repertoire, accompaniments and recordings; in the Corona Florum project she brought music together with historical dance; and today she is responsible for the entire musical work of the RETRO Vocal and Theatre Group.
